How It All Began

The summer before my senior year in college, I became the owner of a one year old Great Dane bitch named Cricket. She was my constant companion for the next four years. I truly adored that dog. Three days before I was to be married, Cricket became very ill and died suddenly. I was completely devastated. Life does go on and we were married as scheduled.

The day we got home from the honeymoon, I told my husband that we had to get a dog, any dog. He insisted that he wanted a Boxer. I, having never met one face to face, couldn't understand the attraction. As far as I know, my husband had never met one either. I was not sold on the idea and asked if we could at least go to the shelter first, just to see what was there. I guess it was meant to be, as one of the first dogs we saw there was a nine month old, brindle Boxer. Jack went home with us that day and we have been in love with Boxers ever since. Less than two years after we got Jack, Rosie came to live with us. They were quite a pair. Those dogs were there to greet each of our daughters when they were brought home for the first time. Jack and Rosie were infinitely patient with the kids from the time they were little babies through the terrible two's and beyond. They were so loved and will be forever in my heart.
